At our “Well-Spent Million Party” in March of 2009, IWCF launched an endowment plan and the first campaign to begin providing for our long-term sustainability. The response was amazing! We met our goal quickly, invested wisely… and then stopped talking about it.
Consistently running such a lean budget, we chose not to touch this fund during its initial years. In 2016, putting the budget together, we decided it was time to invest a little in infrastructure, freshening up our look and updating our technology systems and support to provide the services our members need and expect. At the same time, we recognize that continuing to regularly invest a little more in our long-term sustainability now will better position us to support our communities in the future.
Endowment – Bridge to the Future
Thanks to the generosity of over 250 IWCF members and friends, and to the generosity of our GIFT Legacy Philanthropists, the Susan Smith Endowment will provide sustained support to the ongoing operations of IWCF into the future well beyond the lifetime of many of our current members. Broad needs of communities across SW Idaho will be enriched by Pooled-Fund Grants and Individual Grant Designations of our next generation of IWCF members because you are leaving a legacy gift today.
The Endowment is a permanent source of funding because only a portion of the Endowment is used each year, while the balance is wisely invested in socially-responsible stocks and bonds. The stocks meet a set of rigorous standards known as Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria, as evaluated by an independent agent.
Fiscal Year 19-20 was the fourth year that withdrawals from the Fund provided financial support to IWCF Operations Budget, providing $23,525 in FY 19-20 and $63,509 total since FY 16-17. Even with these withdrawals, the fund has grown from a combination of earnings and additional donations, and it is within striking distance of the initial $1 million goal.
There are multiple ways for you to help grow our Endowment:
– A one-time donation
– A legacy donation to our newly-created GIFT (Giving It Forward Together) Legacy group for those who include IWCF in their estate planning
– A series of donations over a period of months or years
Any of these donations can be made in cash, by check or credit card, or via transfers of shares of stock, if that is better for your personal income tax situation.
